Frosted Windowpanes...

Candles gleaming inside. . .painted candy canes on the tree. . . These words from Christmas Waltz paint the perfect picture.

Of course, Christmas might be old news where you live, but here in Russia, Orthodox Christmas is Monday, January 7. And, as for frosted windowpanes, have a look at mine! This view is out my kitchen window and onto the balcony.

I think the patterns are exquisite -- even through the security bars which are almost pretty as far as security bars go. But they're a must for first-floor apartment dwellers and a simply a wise investment for second-floor folks such as myself. And they do add a bit of visual texture to those windowpanes.

Say, here are my best iced window shots from last winter, and in my humble opinion, they're positively breathtaking.

Hey, Eileen!

Just incredible pictures!

Hope we'll have such windows this year too. Such beauty helps survive long cold winter in Russia!

Best wishes!
Svet and Kyle

Hey Rose, Yeah - when a Photographer likes my photos, well that's Really a compliment. Thank you so much! Temps here - cold, cold. See, all I have is a celsius thermometer nowadays, and that says like minus 10 degrees... so okay, it's well below freezing. Maybe close to your temps?

Kyle and Svet, Trying to do justice to those frosty windows is tricky - they're like etched or embossed on the glass, such fragile beauty! I really do enjoy your blog. Want to learn how to do video as you do on your blog. It's great!

Actually, I love the bars; they're hard and cold and practical. The ice crystals by contrast are delicate and created beautifully out of the breath of cold air. It's one of those thing that seemingly has no purpose, except to delight us. Beautiful!

Hey Karen, thank you for believing me that I really Do Not live in a prison! =) Yes, these bars are pretty as far as bars go. Got the balcony ones made so they'll open with a key in case of a fire. In which case I can jump out...into the dumpster. ;) Glad you like the photos - and guess what, you can go to my webshots.com albums (see address on links) and download these photos as screen savers for your computer. And have a frosted computer screen. How *cool* would That be? ;) E.

Hello John, that you for your kind words about photos and blog. Are you a Russo-phile yourself? Come on, no fair being mysterious! ;) E

Yes Eileen, I am very interested in Russia. I visit several sites about Russia on a daily basis. “From Russia with Love” is one of my favorites because you focus on daily life and experience in Russia. You are a great ambassador.

Yeah John, thank you for the kind words. Amazingly enough, at the very moment when your comment arrived, I was gathering info about William Joseph Burns, US Ambassador to Russia. I've seen him interviewed on TV and wanted to know more about him. And those ambassador types, are such good examples of...diplomacy and all. Thanks again, and by the way, always open to suggestions on topics! E
